And now… the Contest!

Just guess which of these four lines comes from which book:

1. She followed Charlene’s finger and turned in her seat. She gazed into a belt buckle only six inches away from the tip of her nose. Oh dear.

2. It was lust. Overwhelming, all consuming, spread-her-legs-wide lust, and it was all for him.

3.You’re slick as a seal, aren’t you?

4. His hand alone sent her reeling toward the edge of an orgasm and brought out her inner wickedness in five seconds flat. Two seconds if he used both hands, she bet.

Easy! Leave your answer in the comments, and we’ll pick a winner this evening by the highly scientific method of tossing all the correct answers in a hat and picking one without looking (ok, maybe not a hat. Maybe like a coffee cup or a bowl or something. But “pick a name from the Rubbermaid” just doesn’t have the right ring to it). If there are no correct answers, then we’ll toss them all into the… as yet to be determined container.

And of course, on your way to the comments section, please allow the waiter to assist you in partaking from our elegant brunch  buffet (the lobster quiche is spectacular!) and pour you a lovely, freshly-squeezed Mimosa (with your choice of Cristal or Dom Perignon). And whatever else you may require. He’s a very, very eager slave–ah, waiter.

  2. All these books sound awesome!

    Let’s see… I’m going to guess:

    #1: The Highwayman

    #3: Love Rescued Me

    #4: Didja Know?

    August 15, 2010 at 10:06 am

    • Fiona Vance

Hi LK! Muahaha…. the suspense is gonna kill ya, huh? Please, help yourself to the brunch buffet! Where is that waiter… Gina probably has him distracted over at the bar again!

      August 15, 2010 at 10:49 am

      • Don’t listen L.K. I really don’t know how I got the reputation as being the waiter hog. I am a respectable girl.

        August 15, 2010 at 10:54 am

      • Don’t mind if I do help myself here. Let’s see what nice vegetarian food you put out since you *knew* I was coming LOL

And while I’m at it, let’s get talking about your books!

Gina, I already know all about yours – and how it was sparked by a what-if in line for Starbucks – but what about everyone else? Did you see (or read) something that made you go hmmm?

And Abby – your book sounds so far from the norm (I love it). Were you ever afraid that maybe it was just a little *too* different to sell to a publisher?

Fiona – I’m a complete history buff. What about the Regency period spurred you to write your story?

        August 15, 2010 at 11:11 am

      • Fiona Vance

Waiter! LK looks like she’d like something…
What spurred me to write The Highwayman? I wanted to explore the ideas of what it meant to be powerful. In the Regency era, women held only the kind of power they could create for themselves, and that was primarily social. In most Regency stories, the main character is either a virgin just coming out and vying for a handsome, rich rake, or more recently, a member of the lower social classes who’s either a servant or a prostitute, and free to engage in more “unseemly” behavior. But I wanted to think about what it would be like for one of the Top Dogs of society, one of the famous Almack’s patronesses, who was all-powerful over the women of the haute monde, and yet, was completely powerless in her own home, her own body, her own sexual response. Enter the Highwayman…

It’s not a romance. It’s more correctly erotica–the story of a woman’s personal and sexual journey. It does deal with infidelity, which is not an easy topic. But despite what Gina and Abby and Deb tell everyone, I’m not easy. 🙂

        Thanks for askin’ 🙂

        August 15, 2010 at 12:44 pm

  3. Lobster quiche? I’m so here. Oh waiter…I’ll take a lil champagne with my breakfast please.

    August 15, 2010 at 10:10 am

  4. Hello everyone!!! I am ready for my mimosa and to ogle some hot pool boys.

Oh, Pedro. *snaps fingers* Bring that drink tray over here.

    August 15, 2010 at 10:11 am

  5. Hey all! Just to let you know, I made a few phone calls and the firemen will be showing up periodically to mist all us girls down. It’s gonna get hot today.

*grabs a drink and some quiche* Thanks Fiona, you always know how to host a party!

    August 15, 2010 at 10:28 am

    • Fiona Vance

Well, don’t let what happened last time happen again. You know, the “last” time we had to call the fire department…? Ahem?

      August 15, 2010 at 10:50 am

      • I believe the last time the firemen were here it was voluntarily. They seem to like sparkly things.

        August 15, 2010 at 10:56 am

  6. That was not my fault! lol Besides, you have to admit that you had fun.

I’ll try to keep these men in line, but, well…I can’t control them if they want to compete against each other for our attention.

    August 15, 2010 at 10:56 am

  7. Awesome line up, ladies 🙂 Scorching hot covers, too.

    August 15, 2010 at 10:58 am

    • Fiona Vance

Thanks, Ambrielle! And you need to answer the questions! The waiter is instructed to make sure *everyone* answers the questions. And he has handcuffs. Mimosa? *pouring…*

      August 15, 2010 at 11:00 am

      • Um, you make it sound like handcuffs are a bad thing.

        August 15, 2010 at 11:06 am

  8. Fiona Vance

I believe it was because Gina tossed her tube top up into the disco ball, and shorted out the lights. Or was that Debra? She *looks* like a nice little mainstream girl, but it’s just an act. LOL And she knows *all* about firemen. *snort*

    August 15, 2010 at 11:02 am

  9. *lol* Good lookin, waiter 😉 And I was tempted to not answer the questions too.

    1. DIDJA KNOW…?
    2. THE HIGHWAYMAN
    3. HER FIVE FAVORITE WORDS
    4. LOVE RESCUED ME

*heading over to the lobster quiche* Yum!

    August 15, 2010 at 11:10 am

  10. lol Great Fiona, call me a nice lil’ mainstream girl. I bet ya $10 at the end of the party I’ll have 2 (count them 2!) fireman to drive me home. Ha!

*sniff* Now, I’m gonna go hang out with Gina and see if I can bribe her to tell me what the five favorite words are in her book.

    August 15, 2010 at 11:12 am

    • Fiona Vance

Hey, now… I said you *looked* like a nice little mainstream girl. Heh-heh-heh…. as we know, looks can be deceiving 🙂

      August 15, 2010 at 12:46 pm

  11. Mimosas? Where do you people find these fru fru drinks? O_O

    Johnnie Walker Black over here.

And hey Abby, I COULD be wrong, but I’m not sure firefighters have a “mist” option.

    I can see it now:

Fire Chief: “It’s a four alarm fire, boys! Break out the hoses! We gotta mist it!”

    😀

    And guesses:
    1.Love Rescued Me
    2.Highwayman
    3.Didja Know?
    4.Her Five Favorite Words

    August 15, 2010 at 11:17 am

  12. @Debra, ooo, I know, I know! I know what the five fav words are. Wouldn’t you like to know?

    August 15, 2010 at 11:18 am

    • Ambrielle *throws an arm around your shoulders* let’s do a little bartering. One fireman, your own personal waiter, and an endless supply of cheesecake for you to tell me Gina’s big secret. Deal?

      August 15, 2010 at 11:26 am

    • Fiona Vance

      SHHHH!!! No tellin’! 🙂

      August 15, 2010 at 11:27 am

      • Would it make you feel better if I said that the 5 words aren’t dirty at all. Not one little bit.

        August 15, 2010 at 11:43 am

  13. Hhhhm? Don’t know about that, Debra. Gina, what have got to throw in the bargain? My lips are sealed right now, but her offerings are very enticing 🙂

    August 15, 2010 at 11:45 am

  14. L.K – I was in close contact with my editor while writing Didja Know, and every time I got a wild idea, she would send me an email saying “Yes! Yes!” lol

Although, I’m still waiting for one of my publishers to send me an email saying, “Are you crazy?” lol

    August 15, 2010 at 11:46 am

    • Fiona Vance

LOL! You’re not crazy. It’s just that funny jacket with all the buckles that sometimes puts people off.

      August 15, 2010 at 12:55 pm

  15. Gina – No. lol

There’s just something about wanting to know what they are that makes me want this book. Well, that and the cover is smokin’ hot! lol

    August 15, 2010 at 11:48 am

  16. Ambrielle-My secret is yours to tell if it involves sexy firemen!! lol

Debra-I love the cover too. Justyn did the best job.

Speaking of secrets…I guess Abby doesn’t want me to give away the fact that Frank is…..

    August 15, 2010 at 11:53 am

    • *pushes a fireman at Gina and wipes forehead* Whew! That’ll keep her busy for awhile.

      August 15, 2010 at 12:03 pm

      • *wipes sweat from forehead*

        Whew…gotta love firemen.

I’m back. What did I miss. Oh, look. New people!!

        August 15, 2010 at 12:51 pm

Thanks for your guess! But it wouldn’t be fair to tell so soon, would it? Mua-hua-hua… 🙂

      August 15, 2010 at 12:58 pm

  18. Maybe! lol Gina made me promise not to give any hints…so, we’ll have to find out if anyone guessed right when the contest is over. 😉

Of course, you can make as many guesses as you want. *hands MinnChica a drink*

    August 15, 2010 at 12:19 pm

    • *hands Cathy another Mimosa* At our parties it is only normal to have a drink for each hand.

Okay, that’s my little trick to keep my hands off the firemen roaming around the room. lol

      August 15, 2010 at 12:22 pm

    • Fiona Vance

Waiter! Waiter! Another Mimosa for Cathy! 🙂 Can I interest you in a piece of lobster quiche? I made it myself. I make wonderful seafood. Ask anyone. Hmmm….I wonder if I have any calamari left over from the last party…?

      August 15, 2010 at 1:01 pm

      • The lobster quiche is edible…just be sure to pass on the calamari!! Don’t ask…lol

        August 15, 2010 at 1:46 pm

  20. <——–Oh lookie! My cowboy showed up!

    August 15, 2010 at 12:20 pm

    • I call dibs on any of his cowboy friends. I’ve had my quota of waiters for the day

      August 15, 2010 at 12:52 pm

    • Fiona Vance

He was jealous of the firemen. Waiter! Can you go out and get some nice sweet feed for Abby’s cowboy’s horse? And make sure he’s not trampling the petunias.

      August 15, 2010 at 1:02 pm

  21. Brandy Blake

    brandyzbooks@yahoo.com

    August 15, 2010 at 12:40 pm

    • Fiona Vance

Brandy!! Waiter, quit playing with the horse and bring Brandy a slice of quiche! And a fireman.

      August 15, 2010 at 1:04 pm

      • Brandy Blake

thanks for the quiche… IF he doesn’t bring the fireman, can I play with him???

        -Brandy

        August 15, 2010 at 2:00 pm

  22. Of course you can, Brandy.

“Hey Lucas, grab your helmet and your hose. I have someone you should meet.”

      -Brandy

      August 15, 2010 at 2:02 pm

  23. While Her Five Favorite Words aren’t dirty, His Five Favorite Lines are.. er, mostly. 😉

A little promo for Gina LOL

(As a privileged CP, I am in the KNOW!!)

Abby – Well I admire you for your audacity even if you were in contact lol. Can’t wait to read.

Fiona – Now that’s an interesting spin to a Regency! While I do like the run-of-the-mill Regency stories plaguing the market, it’s like walking out of Toronto (LOL Gina) and breathing again, smog-free. Sounds fantastic!

    August 15, 2010 at 1:35 pm

    • As a privledged CP, L.K. doesn’t know how to keep things in the vault lol.

      August 15, 2010 at 1:40 pm

      • Fiona Vance

Heh-heh-heh… So… LK… have another Mimosa and then come sit by me. *pats the sofa*

        August 15, 2010 at 2:03 pm

    • Fiona Vance

Plaguing. LOL. I love them, too. I’ve just been reading them since forever, and I keep wanting to do something *else* with them. LOL. And I like a challenge. What normal person would put “erotic” and “Regency” in the same sentence?

I think my next one is going to be a paranormal erotic Regency, just to up the ante. 🙂

      August 15, 2010 at 2:09 pm

      • Well now THAT sounds like something I would read! As you can tell I love things outside the norm… but oddly, I often find myself writing vanilla things. *shrugs*

All that aside, I would LOVE to see a paranormal…erotic…regency LOL

        August 15, 2010 at 2:23 pm

      • THis non-historical reading person might even read that….just because it is so different

        August 15, 2010 at 2:26 pm

  24. Oops, did you not want anyone to know about your dirty sequel to Her Five Favorite Words?

    August 15, 2010 at 1:48 pm

    • Let’s just hope it gets contracted lol!!

      August 15, 2010 at 1:50 pm

      • Brandy Blake

        I’m sure it will…. 🙂

        -Brandy

        August 15, 2010 at 2:04 pm

  25. Pfft of course it will, it’s fantastic!

    August 15, 2010 at 2:07 pm

  26. Hehe Fiona – you just might win Gina over! Between the two of us if we bombard her with enough historicals maybe she’ll convert!!

    August 15, 2010 at 2:30 pm

    • Fiona Vance

LOL! LK, you grab her legs and I’ll tie her hands… Waiter! Bring me a copy of The Highwayman and start on page one please!

      August 15, 2010 at 2:39 pm

    August 15, 2010 at 3:05 pm

  29. Fiona Vance

Waiter: OK, I’ll read. *Ahem* “The Highwayman, by Fiona Vance. Once upon a time, there was a man, a wonderful man, with long, dark hair, shimmering blue eyes, and ripped abs, who busted his butt working these hen parties as he struggled to make a name for himself in the adult film industry…”

    August 15, 2010 at 4:05 pm

    • lol…well now. If Regency is a cover for the adult film industry I am in!!!

      August 15, 2010 at 4:06 pm

      • Fiona Vance

Waiter: it is not a *cover*. I’m just a struggling actor trying to make a living waiting tables and serving drinks at author parties while waiting for my dream to come true. You ladies are *so* imaginative…

        August 15, 2010 at 4:35 pm

  30. Hang on! *shoots back a shot of Jack* Okay. Continue…

    August 15, 2010 at 4:22 pm

    • Fiona Vance

Oh shoot, is it 5:00 already??? Waiter, put the champagne away and break out the Jack Daniels! Oh, sorry, I mean after you’re finished reading 🙂
